There are two major football clubs in the same Saitama city.
One is Urawa Reds and another is Oomiya Ardija.
Urawa Reds
Urawa Reds is one of the biggest football clubs in Japan.Its supporters are so passionate.
A few radical supporters do sometimes bad things and are notorious. About 6 years ago, they showed up with a color discriminating banner on the stadium. This incident made a furious controversy and as an atonement, the team had to play the next game without audiences.
Actually I went to the Studium and scout the situation on the very day of the match. The stadium was surrounded by a very eccentric mood. And anti-riot policies were put in action. It was really tense. I had to get permission from police officers just for walking around the stadium. I felt danger.
Oomiya Ardija
Oomiya Ardija is not as big a club as Urawa Reds, but it boasts a long and deep history.
Saitama derby
Always historical much; Urawa Reds vs Oomiya Ardija.
Saitama city is not so big. It is rare that in such a small district, two major football teams are co-existing and rivaling.
Though Urawa is a really Big and Strong team, Oomiya has made their best and won the derby almost on a fifty-fifty basis.
